Drag racers in Cape Town have shown an unconcerned attitude when traffic officials tried to stop street racing on the weekend.
It was said that 23 vehicles have been suspended from being used, while officials also issued 39 fines to unlicensed drivers, 27 fines to number plate related issues and 10 for drivers driving without a safety belt. 21 fines were issued for smooth tyrse, and 24 were issued for illegal lights fitted. 33 fines were issued for various other offenses.
The incident happened in Gatesville, in a parking lot nicknamed Indiana. This area was notorious for drag racing.
The police said that they found VW Golfs, Hondas and BMW 3-Series with illegal exhaust pipes and dropped suspensions. The even found a “1400″ Nissan Champ with a Toyota 16 valve motor in it.
Drivers were said to be between the ages of 20 and 30.
