The final race of the WesBank Super Series 2009 calendar is set to be a crowd pleaser as four championships are still to be decided. The 2009 calendar has been a tight contest and has yet to go down to the wire in previous years.
“2009 has set a benchmark for South African motorsport, as this year’s Super Series has been pure action at every meeting and this final race pays testament to that,” says WesBank’s GM of Marketing, George Nyabadza. “Such an amazing racing season is the result of excellent driving from South Africa’s finest motor racers and has definitely set the entertainment standard for next year.”
The race action features a full house of national championship races. The WesBank V8 Supercars championship is wide open with only 7 points separating Marc Auby and Hennie Groenewald. In the Bridgestone Production Cars, Class A will be a title chase to the last lap between the BMW of Anthony Taylor and the Audis of Johan Fourie and Michael Stephen. In Class T, archrivals Graham Nathan and Gary Formato are separated by only 1 point.
The Engen VW Cup will also go down to the wire, with the leading three drivers separated by only 9 points. Last but not least, having already clinched the Interfile Supersport title, Kawasaki driver Sheridan Morais’ focus will be on the two Interfile Superbike heats in his attempt to become the first rider to win both the Interfile SA Supersport and Interfile SA Superbike championships in the same season.
In addition, the Volkswagen Motorsport 25th Anniversary Citi Legends celebration race will bring bumper-to-bumper action and features big name stars like Sarel van der Merwe, Giniel de Villiers and Terry Moss to name a few.
Gates open at 10:00 on 17 October at Kyalami race track.
